Christ’s Perfect Provison

Provision

When I committed to writing for the Lord, I did not realize how hard it would sometimes be to write about what He is calling me to.

Budgeting.  I am excellent at budget preparation.  I am quite proficient at tracking every penny spent using Quicken.  I have an impressive list of categories to  keep it all organized.  I take care of other people’s money very well.  What is humbling to admit is that I so often fail to stick to a personal budget.

Reminds me of a Seinfeld episode about a rental car reservation.  Anybody can make a budget.  It takes commitment to adhere to it.

For me, it isn’t about the large purchases.  I research those to death.  It is in the small things here and there.  Speaking of spending on small things, I should probably never step foot in Target.

But here is what the Lord has been speaking to me about.

What we financially receive is a gift from the Lord.  How we spend that gift should be a direct reflection of our relationship with Him.

It is only when we fully realize this that we can begin to recognize Christ’s perfect provision in our life.

We spent almost all of last year teaching our 2nd grade Sunday School class about the Israelites.  How the Lord rescued them from a life of slavery in Egypt to take them to the Promised Land.  Along the way, His perfect provision gave them fire at night so they could see and manna from heaven so they would have nourishment.  Time and time again, He took care of their needs.  So, why do I not fully trust Him with my needs?

As far as my budgeting, I am praying through it.  And I am beginning to recognize that when I honor Christ with the gifts that He has so lovingly provided, I am not missing out on anything.  In fact, I am gaining everything because I am placing my trust in Him.

As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace. ~ I Peter 4:10

Grace – A New Measurement

Amazing Grace

Measuring up.  Most days I just don’t feel it.  So often we find it hard to measure up to the high standards we have in our mind.  If…our house isn’t clean, our kids well adjusted and happy, our spouses fulfilled.  If…we aren’t exceeding our goals at work, losing weight, keeping up with our ever growing task list, investing in the lives of those around us.  If…we are not living what we think is a picture perfect life, we easily begin to feel like a failure.  And how can we as “failures” make a difference in this world?

We sing of amazing grace.  We may even think we understand it.  But do we live that way?

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. ~II Corinthians 12:9

The author of Corinthians was Paul.  He understood what it meant to try and measure up.  But over time, he began to grasp that Christ can and will use us regardless of what we feel our inadequacies are.  In fact, He can only use us for His glory when we come with sincere and humble hearts.  When we can be honest and admit we cannot possibly measure up without our Lord’s amazing grace, that is when we can have the greatest impact on others.

Billy Graham once had this to say about grace:  “I look forward to seeing Christ and bowing before Him in praise and gratitude for all He has done for us, and for using me on this earth by His grace – just as I am.”

The Lord’s grace is a gift to us.  It isn’t something we can earn.  And He paid the highest price for this grace by giving His very life.  Let’s honor that sacrifice by beginning to live upon His standard of grace.  Allow Him to use your weaknesses, your perceived inadequacies, even your mistakes.  Trust in His strength, His power. Come to Him with a humble and earnest heart.  He isn’t looking for perfection.  He just wants you.  Right now.  Right where you are.

That is Amazing Grace!

I’ve Missed The Sunshine!

Sunshine

The start of the summer of 2014 has been filled with cloudy days.  And most of those clouds have been filled with rain.  Lots and lots of rain.  As much as I can appreciate a rainy day here and there, my heart craves the sunshine!  Research tells us that our bodies require (within reason) some sun.  Sunlight is the major source of vitamin D and when we don’t get enough of this vitamin it can lead to all kinds of problems (chaos).

Spending dedicated time with our Savior through reading the Bible and praying is like sunshine for our soul!

“He is like the light of morning at sunrise on a cloudless morning, like the brightness after rain that brings grass from the earth.” ~ 2 Samuel 23:4

In the last few years, I have come to fully appreciate that not only does Christ seek us to spend eternity with him but He desires a daily lifelong relationship with us.  It is only when we spend time “basking” in His sunlight that we can handle the disappointments, the stress, the losses.  The chaos that comes our way.  He has so much He can teach us in this life when we take the time to listen.

Join me as we learn together how to keep our focus on Christ even among the chaos.  More than anything, I hope you are encouraged to spend more time in His sunlight!
