Christ’s Perfect Provison

Provision

When I committed to writing for the Lord, I did not realize how hard it would sometimes be to write about what He is calling me to.

Budgeting.  I am excellent at budget preparation.  I am quite proficient at tracking every penny spent using Quicken.  I have an impressive list of categories to  keep it all organized.  I take care of other people’s money very well.  What is humbling to admit is that I so often fail to stick to a personal budget.

Reminds me of a Seinfeld episode about a rental car reservation.  Anybody can make a budget.  It takes commitment to adhere to it.

For me, it isn’t about the large purchases.  I research those to death.  It is in the small things here and there.  Speaking of spending on small things, I should probably never step foot in Target.

But here is what the Lord has been speaking to me about.

What we financially receive is a gift from the Lord.  How we spend that gift should be a direct reflection of our relationship with Him.

It is only when we fully realize this that we can begin to recognize Christ’s perfect provision in our life.

We spent almost all of last year teaching our 2nd grade Sunday School class about the Israelites.  How the Lord rescued them from a life of slavery in Egypt to take them to the Promised Land.  Along the way, His perfect provision gave them fire at night so they could see and manna from heaven so they would have nourishment.  Time and time again, He took care of their needs.  So, why do I not fully trust Him with my needs?

As far as my budgeting, I am praying through it.  And I am beginning to recognize that when I honor Christ with the gifts that He has so lovingly provided, I am not missing out on anything.  In fact, I am gaining everything because I am placing my trust in Him.

As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace. ~ I Peter 4:10
